So for the past couple years we have seen extremely mild (almost unnecessary) tweaking and polishing of stuff already in the game. We recently got a new launcher and undock button, a few ships were tweaked here and there. But for the most part CCP has been spending all it's resources on developing DUST as a game.
That's nice. A lot of EVE players who love PS3 defend this decision and it's ok. But nothing exciting is happening with EVE. Now even more resources are going over to DUST and I figure it will be 2 more years before that's over.
But wait!
Then there is WoD, after DUST CCP says they're going to be focusing on yet another game. So if this takes 4-5 years like DUST that means we won't be seeing anything new and exciting in EVE for 7 more years.
When will EVE advance as a game? When will gameplay DEVELOP... this does not mean splashing glitter on the UI. For the purpose of this discussion let's not call that "development"
Bolded the funny slash ironic parts.
Dusts main problem and the reason why its getting hammered in the press and blogs is because its not getting nearly enough development. Its bare bones in the extreme and that makes it boring, of limited replayability of passing interest etc. And with CCP refusing to put stuff in that will draw other gamers, like crafting. They are shooting themselves in the foot. IMHO.

Maybe the reason it appears to be bare bones isn't because of lack of resources (I really doubt that). Maybe it's because CCP had no idea how to make an FPS, then they did a bunch of work they apparently had to scrap for a new engine? or something. PS3 architecture, something, something. (Ironic part being they made this same mistake for WiS/Incarna and clearly didn't learn from it)
Yes I think they are taking the interpretation of First Person Shooter a little literally.
I don't agree they have showered the Dust team with the correct resources.
If that was the case were are the other racial suits? Why is the concept art for an amarr tank literally a thumbnail cut from a silhouette worksheet? Why when questioned about full racial symmetry the devs are either evasive or say stuff like "it will be out but not as soon as we would like".
This is all suggestive that they just don't have the people to create the art assets, or that they did and said people have been asked to work on other stuff. |

Large Collidable Object wrote:Actually I'm quite pleased with the things they're aming at - they're generally overexaggerating considering the fact that any frig should be able to take down a BS on its own, but in general, they're working on the right subjetcs.
Incarna was a desaster, Dust was born dead, WOD will never live - it's a shame so much money is wasted on stupid ideas, but hey - it's CCPs money...
Incarna was made a disaster by thier ambition. They broke the cardinal rule of game design, they let artistic prode get in the way of the proposed game play. And rather scrap or down grade the highly expesive avatar models they tried to recoup thier mistake by shoehorning in microtransactions, thats didn't fit anyway. Whats the point of vanity items in a single player experience.
They could have made incarna work if the avatars hadn't been so expensive and grahics-card melty. But they chose to go with the shiney.
Incarna will work they day everyone has the rigs to allow for it. Right now, not a chance.
